Sometimes I like to torture myself by forcing an answer to impossible questions like 'If I could only listen to one genre of music what would it be?' and then I sit in frustration trying to answer the question honestly. I don't know why I put myself through this. I think it may be my obsession with unraveling the essence of self or knowing that I stand for something. The real truth is that I know that variety is the spice of life, and that from one mood to another my favorite anything could change on a dime. I know this. But I do think that although variety is necessary for survival, there are some reliable constants that get us through the day to day - old faithfuls that require very little thought. When it comes to our attire this is what we call our uniform. The outfit that always pleases us and that we feel like ourselves in without question. Although this go-to outfit may seem thoughtless now, it likely evolved after much trial and error of getting to know ourselves. For me, my uniform is a loose fit ankle trouser or jean with a box cut top and a flat shoe. It doesn't fail me. It's nice to know things about myself that are for sure. Especially when it seems that the older I get, the less I really know as ignorance, slowly, falls to the wayside. So ponder that why don't you - what is your life uniform? Or don't if it makes your head hurt.
